Downtown Charlottetown Inc (DCI) will be accepting grant applications for the 2025 Façade Improvement Program starting March 2025, until the budget is depleted .

• Applications must be submitted before any work is done. 
• Letter of Approval: If your application has been approved, you will receive a letter of approval via email. Once received, work may begin. 
• Work must be completed  AND claim form (including proof of payment) submitted before October 31, 2025. 
• Each specific property/address is only eligible to apply every 2nd year for a façade grant.

The program is intended to provide financial incentives to aid property owners and tenants within the Business Improvement Area (BIA) to improve their building’s exterior appearance, thus adding to the overall streetscape beautification of our downtown. 

Successful applicants are eligible to receive 50% of the cost of their façade improvement project (excluding HST) up to a maximum of $4,000. 

All DCI levy paying commercial property owners and commercial tenants within the Downtown Charlottetown Business Improvement Area (BIA) 

Note: Commercial tenants must have a letter of approval from the property owner. 

Each specific property/address is only eligible to apply every 2nd year for a façade grant. 

Façades are defined as the outside wall, which borders on a street, parking lot, walkway or public alleyway. Façades that border on narrow corridors between buildings or that will have a structure constructed along that façade in the future are not eligible to receive assistance. 

Eligible Work/Improvements    

Painting, siding, windows, doors, awnings and fixtures, outdoor patios (base only,  not including furniture or decorative assets/plants), reconstruction, accessibility improvements, signage (not to include product ads), security lighting and professional consultations. Landscaping & planters abutting the property will be considered.  Note: this grant is intended to to improve street facing facades with permanent/affixed rather than seasonal construction/assets.

Funding assistance is available for eligible improvements of commercial buildings within the BIA. Façade improvement assistance will cover 50% of the total costs to a maximum of $4000 per façade with a maximum of two façades per application. 

DCI will review applications on a first come first served basis. Funds will be distributed until the 2025 budget allocations have been depleted, at which point no new applicants will be accepted. 

Submit a completed and signed application form along with all supporting documents including:

• Detailed project description    
• Photo or drawing of current conditions. 
• Drawing of proposed improvements   
• Written quotes from certified contractor(s) 
• Scan and email, drop off, or mail to the DCI office your application package; info@downtowncharlottetown.com 

Applications must be approved before work commences.
