The COVID-19 Special Leave Fund is a temporary support for workers and self-employed people who are unable to schedule a vaccination appointment outside of work hours, are unable to work due to illness, COVID-19 testing or self-isolation requirements, or to care for their child(ren) who cannot attend their school or regular childcare due to COVID-19 closure and who do not qualify for the Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit, Canada Recovery Caregiver Benefit, or have access to paid sick leave.
A funding program has been developed by the Province of PEI to support the PEI Tourism Operators through a joint partnership of Finance PEI and Tourism PEI. This new program will provide funding in the form of a repayable loan to qualified applicants. Interest payments on loans approved through this program will qualify for interest relief (interest payment made behalf of the client) from Tourism PEI for a period of 18 months with Finance PEI offering principal deferrals to match the same 18 month period.
The Tourism Interest Relief Program announced by the Province of Prince Edward Island will provide assistance to Island tourism operators through a joint partnership of Finance PEI and Tourism PEI. Subject to the terms noted below, assistance provided will equal the amount of interest expense incurred or paid on term debt, for each month from April 1, 2020 to September 30, 2022 in which the tourism operator demonstrates either:
a) a minimum 30% decrease in tourism related revenues from operations located in Prince Edward Island compared to the same month in the prior year; or
b) that the operation had no tourism revenue.
As an employer in Canada who has seen a drop in revenue during the COVID-19 pandemic, you may be eligible for a subsidy to cover part of the wages you pay employees. This subsidy will enable you to re-hire workers, help prevent further job losses, and ease your business back into normal operations
The government has announced new proposed regulatory changes to temporarily expand eligibility for wage and commercial rent support for businesses and other organizations under the Local Lockdown Program. These changes would:
- apply to claim periods 24 and 25 (December 19, 2021, to February 12, 2022)
- allow those entities to qualify if they are subject to a capacity-limiting public health restriction of 50 per cent or more
reduce the current-month revenue decline threshold requirement to 25 per cent for those entities
